About KARAMA

KARAMA is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit corporation based in San Diego. It's Board is made up of individuals, including Arabs and non-Arabs, who have been active in the community on issues related to the Arab and Islamic world for many years. KARAMA's principle goal is to improve the general understanding of the region by the American public so that a fresh understanding of the hopes and aspirations of the Arab and Islamic peoples will replace the stereotypes and distortions that dominate public discourse. To this end, KARAMA focuses on:
- Understanding the role of colonialism in determining the geo-political features of the region;
- Emphasizing the richness of the culture of the region;
- Respecting the dignity and essential humanity of the peoples of the region; and,
- Supporting the rights of self-determination and return of Palestinians.

KARAMA believes that realizing the rights of Palestinians is central to the political and social progress of the region. Accordingly, KARAMA's work has a strong emphasis on Palestine.
